1. What is LoRa environmental sensor

LoRa environmental sensors refer to environmental sensors equipped with LoRa nodes, such as temperature sensors, humidity sensors, air pressure, indoor air quality sensors, etc. However, unlike traditional environmental sensors, LoRa environmental sensors send the collected data to LoRa gateways through the LoraWan protocol, and then finally transmit them to the server.

Since LoRa environmental sensors use LoRa technology to send data, this also determines that its networking is simpler than traditional sensors.

LoRa environmental sensors have low power consumption due to the LoRa technology.

The traditional environmental sensors, on the other hand, use other technologies, such as Wifi technology, to transmit data. And the common communication distance of Wifi is a few tens of meters.

However, the wireless communication distance of LoRa technology can reach several kilometers or even a dozen kilometers, which is farther compared to Wifi technology.

Thus, when our application scenario is, for example, a smart farm, a situation that requires large area coverage, then, the arrangement of our sensors will have a very wide range.

If we use Wifi technology to transmit data, then, because the transmission distance of Wifi technology is relatively short, which leads to the need to use a large number of routers to be the intermediate transmission data tool, the network set-up difficulty and cost will be much higher.

However, if LoRa technology is used, the wireless communication distance can reach several kilometers, and even more than ten kilometers in places like farms where there are few obstructions, which means the communication distance can reach a thousand times of the communication distance of Wifi, so the number of gateways can be almost 1/1000 of that of Wifi technology, which greatly reduces the number of gateways that need to be arranged. This greatly reduces the number of gateways that need to be arranged, lowering the cost of networking and greatly reducing the complexity of networking.

Summary: Compared with traditional temperature and humidity sensors, LoRa temperature and humidity sensor power consumption is greatly reduced, and the communication distance is much greater than the traditional technology, and the network is much easier, which can significantly reduce the network cost, and is a more preferred device for industrial and agricultural applications.
